Director of Manufacturing

We are working with a client to find a Director of Manufacturing. This position is responsible for the efficient operation of the manufacturing plant which includes production, safety, security, product development, quality control, production documentation, and management of personnel. These tasks are accomplished personally or through subordinate supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Coordinates plant production, quality, and shipping in an efficient manner in accordance with policies, principles, and procedures established by the company.

Ensures that orders entered into production leave in a timely manner, keeping production lead time down to a minimum.

Establishes, coordinates, and monitors department production schedules for smooth work flow.

Requisitions and schedules the delivery of standard and special materials as required for production requirements.

Implements changes in manpower levels, overtime, etc. to maintain and improve efficiency and to meet shipping requirements.

Monitors plant safety and works closely with the Director of Engineering and the Human Resources Director to ensure a safe workplace. Takes necessary action to remedy unsafe work practices and conditions.

Establishes and maintains records and systems for effective inventory and production control for costing, for performance, and for other purposes as may be deemed necessary.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages Department Supervisors and Shift Superintendent who supervise employees in the Production, Maintenance, and Shipping and Receiving departments. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning; assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university (engineering a plus); and five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays and overtime. Experienced in the use of computers (either a mainframe or PC). Be knowledgeable in the principles of MRP, MRPII, and JIT, and have a good mechanical aptitude. Experience in foam injection, sheet metal fabrication, and refrigeration preferred.
