The Physician Assistant (PA-C) According to established protocols, conducts the clinical assessment of the patients' healthcare status and needs and provides patient care to facilitate desired patient outcomes. Provides professional care in patient care areas
The Physician Assistant (PA-C) Performs H&Ps
The Physician Assistant (PA-C) Makes daily patient rounds providing patient care expertise in the postoperative acute care units, step-down units, and regular floors
The Physician Assistant (PA-C) Possesses extensive knowledge of the pharmacologic effects of vasoactive/cardiotonic drugs, ventilator management, and artificial cardiac devices
The Physician Assistant (PA-C) Is well versed in the management of other disease entities frequently encountered in the cardiac population, namely hypertension, diabetes, COPD, asthma, hypothyroidism, and others

The Physician Assistant (PA-C) provides professional care in the Operating Room
The Physician Assistant (PA-C) performs invasive procedures such as thoracenteses, chest tube insertions, placement of central venous, dialysis and Swan-Ganz catheters, arterial lines and intra-aortic balloon pumps, as assigned, Retrieves vascular tissue, including greater and lesser saphenous veins and/or radial arteries, for use as a bypass conduit
The Physician Assistant (PA-C) Works closely with the physician to expedite the procedure and limit the patient s morbidity and mortality
The Physician Assistant (PA-C) Troubleshoots problems and communicates the problems to the OR staff, surgeon and anesthesia provider as appropriate
The Physician Assistant (PA-C) Fills the role as the first assistant in the OR on adult cardiac cases, thoracic and major/minor vascular cases

The Physician Assistant (PA-C)arrives in the OR within the approved timeframe when on call, Greets patient, identifies patient and introduces self to the patient, Assesses physical and psychological needs of the patient and provides support as needed
The Physician Assistant (PA-C) completes skin preparation and draping, provides wound exposure through the proper use of retractors so the surgeon may clearly view the operative site through the use of suction and sponges, provides a dry field of operation to permit optimum the vision of tissue, viscera, vessels.
The Physician Assistant (PA-C) provides hemostasis by use of clamps, cautery, ligation, completes partial wound closure subcutaneous tissues. Applies in an application of special dressings. Assists in transfer of the patient to bed or cart
The Physician Assistant (PA-C) demonstrates sound clinical judgment. Initiates interventions efficiently, safely and skillfully. Provides knowledge-based technical assistance such as using surgical instruments, handling tissue, providing exposure, achieving hemostasis and wound closure.

Physician Assistant Licensure in the state of Florida or eligible

Masters Degree Physician Assistant Required

BLS/ACLS certification

Completion of a program that is approved by the Florida Board of Medicine and national

certification (NCCPA)

2 years of relevant cardiovascular experience

Maintains continuing education relative to practice

Maintains competence as a Physician Assistant
