Job Title: Oncology Nurse – Adult & Geriatric Care (Chemotherapy, Brachytherapy, Clinical Trials)

Shift: Day 3x12-Hour (07:00-19:30) Night 3x12-Hour (19:00-07:30)
Travel Contract: 13 Week Contract
Start Date: Mid-January, 2025
Salary/Pay Package: $2100-$2300 Weekly Gross Pay
Position Overview: We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Oncology Nurse to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering comprehensive care to adult and geriatric patients with a variety of cancer diagnoses, including endometrial, bladder, renal, ovarian, and cervical cancers. This role involves providing advanced treatments such as chemotherapy, clinical trials, brachytherapy, and CBI. Additionally, the nurse will be instrumental in implementing infection prevention protocols and managing patient falls to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct Patient Care: Provide exceptional care to adult and geriatric oncology patients, addressing both their physical and emotional needs.
- Chemotherapy Administration: Administer chemotherapy treatments and closely monitor patients for any adverse reactions.
- Clinical Trials Participation: Assist in the coordination of clinical trials, including data collection and documentation.
- Specialized Procedures: Perform brachytherapy, neobladder care, and other oncology-specific procedures as needed.
- Infection Prevention: Implement and adhere to infection prevention protocols to ensure the safety of patients.
- Telemetry Monitoring: Monitor telemetry readings, interpret dysrhythmias, and respond appropriately to any changes in patient condition.
- Collaborative Care: Work closely with interdisciplinary teams and respond to rapid response team calls as necessary.
- Patient Care Management: Provide care for feeding tubes, administer IV therapies, blood products, and maintain central lines.
- Documentation: Utilize EPIC or other computerized charting systems to accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Education/Certification: Must be a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with at least 2 years of Med-Surg nursing experience.
- BLS Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
- Oncology Experience: Experience with oncology procedures such as chemotherapy administration and brachytherapy is highly preferred.
- Telemetry Proficiency: Proficient in telemetry monitoring, including the interpretation of dysrhythmias and the ability to intervene appropriately.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Professional Development: Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
- Preferred Certifications: Certification in Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy preferred, but not required.
Work Schedule:
- Staffing ratios of 1:4, but may adjust to 1:5 based on unit needs.
- Weekends may be required based on unit staffing demands.
- Flexible scheduling with self-schedule requests accommodated to balance unit needs and staff preferences.
- Orientation schedule: First week – Monday to Friday day shifts; second week – 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor.
